Special Education

An Individualized Approach to Virtual Learning

Reach Cyber Charter School provides a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), without cost to the student or family, for students found to be eligible and in need of special education services. These student-specific related aids, services or accommodations provide equal opportunity for students to participate in and obtain the benefits of the school program. Students are educated in the Least Restrictive Environment to meet their unique needs.

We believe parents are essential members along with the school staff in determining eligibility for, and the provision of, special education services. A student eligible to receive special education services is a student who has been evaluated by the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and has been determined to have one or more of the following disabilities, and who, by reason thereof, needs special education and related services:

  • Autism
  • Deafness-blindness
  • Emotional disturbance
  • Hearing impairment including deafness
  • Intellectual disability
  • Multiple disabilities
  • Orthopedic impairment
  • Other health impairment
  • Specific learning disability
  • Speech language impairment
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Visual impairment including blindness

Secondary Transition Planning

Transition planning is a process mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004) for all students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in K-12 education. The purpose is to facilitate the student's move from school to post-school activities. The Pennsylvania Department of Education mandates that this planning begin for students at the age of 14.

Gifted Services

Reach Cyber Charter School's vision includes being committed to providing a quality education for all learners and being committed to educational excellence. We recognize that gifted learners are a population with educational requirements in need of student-centered learning that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and enrichment in areas of student strengths.
